Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have any questions about Tour de App? We may have already answered them on this page. If not, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to get back to you!

What is "</Tour de App>"?

This is a unique competition in application development. It is primarily aimed at high school students who want to broaden their horizons in the field of programming, project management, or generally orient themselves in the world of application development. A big advantage is that they can try out real-life conditions in a trial run, accompanied by a healthy competitive spirit.

When is the best time to register?

You can register even throughout November, when you have a very good chance of completing all the tasks and having some time for adjustments or checks. Of course, we recommend registering as soon as possible so that everything goes smoothly and time is the last thing your team has to worry about! 😇

Can I use artificial intelligence when creating and programming a project?

The use of artificial intelligence tools is not prohibited. However, from the perspective of effective learning and acquiring new skills, it is better not to use them to create complete solutions to tasks for you.

What is the goal of the competition?

The entire project is based on an effort to show students with at least minimal experience or interest in programming and project management a little bit about the practical side of things. With the help of our educational materials, workshops, and a little initiative, even someone who has never touched a piece of code in their life can learn to program and work with clients in our competition. In a nutshell: educate, apply to practice, and have fun doing it.

Why are you organizing the competition?

Our motto is "Playing School." We want to make teaching more interesting and show that learning doesn't always have to be boring cramming. In this way, we are participating in a quiet revolution in Czech education. We also want to satisfy the desire of young people who want to do something for others. Our team consists entirely of high school and college students, and we follow the motto "students for students."

What criteria must students meet if they want to apply?

They must be high school students who form a team of two or three students. They go to their teacher and submit an electronic application.

Do team members have to be from the same school?

No, but when filling out the application form, you will register under the name of one school.

We made it to the Grandfinale, but our teammate got sick. Can he help us from home via the XY app?

Unfortunately, no. If one or more members of the competition team cannot be present at the Grand Final in person, they cannot participate in the competition remotely using their home computer or communicate via voice applications such as Discord. If the entire team fails to show up for the competition, we are forced to disqualify the team.

About our organization

Who organizes <Tour de App>?

We are Student Cyber Games. A registered association, a group of friends, an experienced team of approximately 50 students from all over the Czech Republic and even a few brave souls from Slovakia. We enjoy doing something extra, so we have been organizing competitions for our peers since 2003. It started with three years of Starcraft, followed by the pIšQworky and Prezentiáda projects, and now <Tour de app>.

What does preparing such a project involve?

Preparations begin as early as the previous year with the submission of grant applications. The actual preparations begin in the second quarter of the year, when potential partners are sought. We have to put together an organizational team and a schedule for the competition, prepare a media campaign, organize the competition itself, gather the necessary materials, and plan some accompanying events. Training the competition organizers is also very important. And then everyone knows what happens next. After the competition ends, preparations for the next year begin again.

How many people are involved in the organization?

Approximately 50 students from SCG itself are involved in the project. The most important ones can be found on the contact page.

What activities do you engage in during the rest of the year?

In addition to all Student Cyber Games members studying at secondary schools or universities, many of us also work. In recent years, however, SCG has been organizing two more competitions for secondary school students: Prezentiáda – a competition in presentation skills, with over 400 teams from all over the Czech Republic and Slovakia participating each year. pIšQworky – a competition in the classic game of tic-tac-toe, which is attended by over 7,000 students and around 600 schools every year.
