About the competition

<Tour de App> is a team competition for high-school students. You will work in a team of two or three to create a fully-fledged web application per the client's demands. But it won't be a walk in the park, because in the second round, there won't be a written assignment - you'll have to communicate with the client's representative to find out what features are required by the client.

Students will learn how to create web applications, collaborate in a team, communicate with the client. This way they can have a near-real-life experience without having to worry about any consequences.

The whole competition was created with beginners in mind. Contestants will have access to our educational materials related to the topics of the competition like versioning using Git, working with Docker, designing a front-end or developing a back-end. Articles (found on our website) and videos (found on our YouTube) are freely available to anyone and can be used as teaching materials. </Tour de App>

Thinking about signing up?

We have gathered answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the competition, the schedule, and additional questions you may need answered.

What is "</Tour de App>"?

This is a unique competition in application development. It is primarily aimed at high school students who want to broaden their horizons in the field of programming, project management, or generally orient themselves in the world of application development. A big advantage is that they can try out real-life conditions in a trial run, accompanied by a healthy competitive spirit.

What is the goal of the competition?

The entire project is based on an effort to show students with at least minimal experience or interest in programming and project management a little bit about the practical side of things. With the help of our educational materials, workshops, and a little initiative, even someone who has never touched a piece of code in their life can learn to program and work with clients in our competition. In a nutshell: educate, apply to practice, and have fun doing it.

Why are you organizing the competition?

Our motto is "Playing School." We want to make teaching more interesting and show that learning doesn't always have to be boring cramming. In this way, we are participating in a quiet revolution in Czech education. We also want to satisfy the desire of young people who want to do something for others. Our team consists entirely of high school and college students, and we follow the motto "students for students."

What criteria must students meet if they want to apply?

They must be high school students who form a team of two or three students. They go to their teacher and submit an electronic application.

Do team members have to be from the same school?

No, but when filling out the application form, you will register under the name of one school.

We made it to the Grandfinale, but our teammate got sick. Can he help us from home via the XY app?

Unfortunately, no. If one or more members of the competition team cannot be present at the Grand Final in person, they cannot participate in the competition remotely using their home computer or communicate via voice applications such as Discord. If the entire team fails to show up for the competition, we are forced to disqualify the team.
